Not enough hours in the day

I'm going to have to make this short and sweet. I am BUSHED! My new job at Cabela's really has been wonderful, but I'm not used to being on my feet for such a long time. I've gotten comfortable on the register and can do most transactions, but still need a manager for a few things. And still have a lot to learn I'm sure. Tomorrow they are moving me back to customer service where the fun really begins!

I apologize if I'm only able to get a couple posts in a week, but until I get the hang of 'time management', they will be few and far between. I expecially feel bad about not being able to post to your sites as often. Please don't think I have forgotten about you, I at least try to quickly read my blog roll and a few others, but I may not always have the time to comment. I hope after I get adjusted to this work schedule I will be able to handle things better.

Tomorrow is another double shift. Golf 8-3 then Cabela's 4-10. Ugh. But that is the last of those. I will do one more day at the golf course and then my season with them will be done. I am actually going to try and get to bed by 10 tonight. It's been a LONG time since that has happened. I still have a few things that need to be taken care of around here, so, for now, I will wish you a fond adieu.......

Tagged again

Okay, it appears I've been tagged - again. Thanks for thinking of me Pirate! New game though. This time you count back 23 post's (or closest to it) and then count to the 5th line (or closest to it) and write what it says and comment on it. Here's what I came up with:

"Damn you NWA!" Geez, has the strike been going on that long? Still affecting our life. Hub still out of work, but negotiations seem to still be going on. He is still, in the mean time, looking for another job that will not take him out of state and something that combined with my job now will help up pay our bills. It's starting to take it's toll. I can only put it in God's hands and have faith that things will work out.

Now I'm supposed to tag 5 others. I only have maybe 5 people that visit my site and I don't want to lose them! Tell you what I'm going to do....you know who you are. If you are up to doing this feel free, otherwise I'll be jinxed for life. Can you live with that? (Don't answer that). For those of you that do...thanks and have fun!

A Great Start!

My first day at my new job was great! I think I'm really going to like this. The people are wonderful and it's a really cool store. Plus I get to wear jeans. I've never been one to dress up. Put me in a comfy pair of jeans and a flannel shirt or sweat shirt and I'm happy.

One thing I miss is my clothes line. Down south I had this clothes line that ran from my back deck out to a tree in the back yard with a pully on it. I could stand on the deck and hang all my clothes just by pulling the line. Blue jeans dried by the sun are the BEST! Stiff and crisp. I've thought about putting one up here but the warm season just doesn't last as long and I'm not sure if it would be worth it. Another one of those projects that I may get around to one of these days.

Cooked up some of that butternut squash and it was SO good! Didn't need to add any sugar, it's sweet enough all by itself. Cheryl mentioned some soup, I'll try that next....perfect time of the year for it! I'll let y'all know how it turns out........

If winter is slumber and spring is birth, and summer is life, then autumn rounds out to be reflection. It's a time of year when the leaves are down and the harvest is in and the perennials are gone. Mother Earth just closed up the drapes on another year and it's time to reflect on what's come before.

The good old days.....

Had a really neat thing happen to us today. An older gentleman came knocking at our door and introduced himself. (I feel bad that I've already forgotten his name). It seems he is a retiree from Ford Motor Co., or Ford's as they would say it, and knows our neighbor who is also a retiree from the same company. He says that he understands that my husband is a mechanic with Northwest Airlines and is currently out of work. We confirm that and he replies that he has some fresh squash, butternut and spagetti, and onions from his garden and asks if we would like some. Now, I have to tell you, quite a few thoughts ran threw my mind. And I am embarrassed to admit the order that they came in. My first thought was "Geez, we're not poor, and how do I tell this nice man this" but then I realized the nice thing to do would be to accept this man's generous offering. We are not struggling, at least not yet. There may come a day when I may be praying for strangers to come to my door to offer me food. I'm not afraid to tell you that I am terribly ashamed with myself. There was a time when one family fell on hard times, neighbors pitched in and provided what they could. Be it food from the garden, milk from their cow, or eggs from their chickens (those that LAYED eggs...hee...hee...*personal joke*). I don't know how or when I put myself up on some pedestal thinking that I am too good to need or accept help from others. Thinking back on this event I realize that this older gentleman, not knowing me from Adam, may have been offering me what he might be selling to support himself and his family. What ever his circumstances, it was a truly thoughtful, selfless, act of kindness that has made me take a second look at my life, bring me back down to earth and thank God for all of the blessings I have.

Autumn

Got my computer running smoothly again. So far the only repercussion that I have suffered is probably a blessing in disguise. I have a way of letting my emails pile up. I don't delete them after I read them, unless it is spam or some advertising of some sort. I think to myself that 1) I might need this in the future (which sometimes I have), and 2) I have plenty of room on my computer so it's no big deal. I think I was up to somewhere close to 500-600. And that's just my Inbox. So anyway.....I had saved (or so I thought) my email messages on a CD. Well, somehow in trying to copy them back onto my computer I lost them. The File is blank now. No telling what I did. Oh well.....Life will go on. Now if I can do the same thing to all the "stuff" I seem to have accumulated around my house!

The days have cooled and gotten shorter, leaves are turning colours and crops are being harvested. I love this time of year. I like throwing extra blankets on the bed and crawling in to stay warm, hot coffee on a cool, crisp morning, and steamy soups, chowders and stews on a brisk winter day (Great recipes and more coming!). There is just something about this time of the year that makes me feel calm and peaceful. This afternoon I went to another fall festival. This one is called Appleumpkin. Again, many craft booths and food vendors but a specialty of this particular fest takes place just outside of town at a local orchard. More booths are set up but they have wagon rides out to the orchards where you can pick fresh fruit, and tables of different varieties of apples. Another sure sign of the season.......apple cider. I splurged just a bit and bought a cup of hot apple cider. The moment that warm liquid touched my lips I knew that Autumn was here. It was a cool day, a brisk breeze teased the sun, but the warmth of that liquid entering my body, purged every chill throughout. A day like this leaves worries and troubles behind, like a distant past, and you can't help but rejoice in reverent silence at this wonderful gift of life.

Oh...uh...okay.....sorry 'bout that. Didn't mean to get carried away in a babble of poetic nonsense. Go jump in a pile of leaves, take a hayride, carve a pumkin....anything to make you feel young and alive! I know today I do!

Time to start over again

Well, I'm not sure when I will be able to post again. I have been saving info onto CD's and it is now time to reformat my computer. I've done this before, but my main concern is being able to reconnect online. Shouldn't be a problem, I have DSL and Verizon told me I shouldn't have to download anything to start it up. Wish me luck. Must be time for me to go to confession again.

I am going to leave you with this story I received in an email from my father. Cute story and definitely something to think about:

Mexican Village
A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village. An American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them. "Not very long," answered the Mexican. "But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American. The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family. The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?" "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, have a few drinks, play the guitar, and sing a few songs . I have a full life." The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat." And after that?" asked the Mexican. With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet of trawlers. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City, Los Angeles, or even New York City! From there you can direct your huge new enterprise." "How long would that take?" asked the Mexican. "Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American. "And ! after that?" "Afterwards? Well my Friend, That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American, laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!" "Millions? Really? And after that?" said the Mexican. "After that? Why after that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast, sleep late, play with your children, catch a few fish, take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings drinking, singing a few songs and enjoying your friends." And the moral is:

“Know where you're going in life... you may already be there.”

A Truly Wonderful Day!!

I had my interview this morning with Cabela's and.....GOT THE JOB!! I am so excited. Out of all the places I applied this is the one I really wanted and there is a bonus to it....the pay is actually the best out of all that I applied for. Cool huh? I start in about 2 weeks. They first have to run a background check on me. Other than knocking off the cookie jar when I was 5-6 years old, I should have a pretty clean history. And just for the record, that was never proven! The evidence of chocolate smeared all over my face was strictly circumstantial!

Today brought another blessing.....I found My Faith...WAIT!!! before you click over to it, let me explain a little. Before I got into Blogging I created this website. But due to technical difficulties (and me not knowing what the heck I was doing), I lost the site. I thought it was gone forever, lost out in the wide world of cyber space. Well, I found it. I don't know how but I am so grateful that I did. So I will discontinue posting recipes here and put them in their proper place on that site, and I will discontinue my new Blog "Food for your Soul", since that is the main essence of my web site. It is a bit outdated (last post was just after Christmas) but I will try to update it soon. Feel free to browse the archives. I hope you enjoy!

Also, my daughter, who applied to a few places yesterday, got a phone call today from her top pick and has an interview on Monday. I'm sure she will do fine. It is at a local little pizzaria type place in town. Really good food.

Still waiting to hear something for my husband but I have faith the right thing will happen. He is starting to feel the stress of all this, so I hope for his sake something happens soon. I know he wants to jump on anything he can right now, but he is capable of SO much! He is a smart guy and can do what ever he sets his mind to. He can do so much better than just 'settling' for something. He could certainly use an Angel in a black leather jacket. But I know God works in His own ways, in His own time. We just have to be patient and have faith.

Not much new....

Not much new going on so I haven't had much to write about. Hubby still out of work and looking. He's been able to get a few driving jobs here and there but nothing steady. I think he is still holding out that NWA and the union are going to reach an agreement, but I honestly don't see it happening. I have had a number of interviews and job offers. The one thing that makes it a bit difficult for me is that I need the hours now but come Spring and Summer of next year I want to continue working at the Golf Course. I love that job and the people. Target seems to be my best bet right now, and I like that store and think it would be fun, but I do have an interview tomorrow that I am excited about. It is with Cabela's. For those of you that don't know what Cabela's is, it is a HUGE outdoor, hunting, fishing, camping etc....store. I love it and would love to get a position there. I'm hoping the pay is right and it is flexible enough for me to do what I want next golf season. Wish me luck!

My car has finally lost the skunk smell, thank goodness! I hope that doesn't happen again. Spent the most of yesterday canning more Salsa. This time we did a HOT batch and I think it is going to taste awsome. Can't wait to try some. I do believe that was the end of all the canning. The garden is finished.....no tears here. As much as I enjoy the rewards of my hubby's hard work and green thumb, the canning and freezing can get to be a pain. But I guess it will make the salsa, relish and veggies taste that much better.

Well till something a little more exciting happens around here, I will continue reading up on everyone elses Blogs and enjoying your joy's, disappointments, funny stories and the scary ones. I suppose I should be thankful there is nothing TOO exciting to write about.....I may be asking for more than I want! LOL
